mIRC is an Internet Relay Chat client, created in 1995, by Khaled Mardam-Bey. The IRC client created for Microsoft Windows, allows you to connect to multiple networks at any one time, and also includes an integrated scripting language, and so caters for scripting needs.
1) Firstly, you will need to download mIRC. You can do this by clicking this link: http://www.mirc.co.uk/get.html and selecting "Download mIRC".
2) Next, open the file you have just downloaded, you will then see a Welcome screen, click "Next".
3) You will then be asked to agree to the user licence, click "Yes".
4) A screen will then appear asking you where you would like mIRC to be stored. Usually the default folder is fine, but change this if required by clicking "browse". After doing this, click "Install".
5) Once mIRC has finished downloading, click "Finish".
6) mIRC will then open, and you can change the options to suit you.
Notes:
1) It is recommended you move the file \defaults\mirc.ini into the same directory as mirc.exe, otherwise it is placed into your working directory in the appdata folder.
1) On your mIRC menu bar, select "Tools" followed by "Address Book".
2) Here, along the top, you will see six tabs, click the one labelled "Highlight".
3) Make sure the "Enable Highlight " is checked.
4) Click "Add". Here you will see a menu.
5) In the first box, write in your nick. You can then select the colour you want your nick to be highlighted in, sound if you wish to be alerted, and flash.
4) When you have done this, click "Ok".
Note:
1) If you use $me instead of your nick it will automatically detect whichever nick name you are currently active on.
2) Alt+b is the shortcut for the address book.
4 How do I add a server to the server list?

3) Along the right, select "Add". This will open an Add Server menu.
4) In "Descripton" write in the name of the server, followed by the IRC server in the next, e.g. irc.freenode.org or irc.hostchaos.com.
5) Then write in the group name in the next box, Click "Add".
1) On your mIRC menu bar, select "Tools" followed by "Options".
2) Under "Connect", select "Options", here you will see a button labelled "Perform...".
3) Click on this, make sure "Enable Performs on connect" is checked.
4) Select your network from the drop down list. If you network is not in this list, click on "Add" and select it from there. (This will only show up if you have the server added to the server list).
5) Then, write in the commands you would like performed in the "Perform Commands:" box. E.g. /ns identify PASS. Putting each command on a seperate line.

A timestamp on mIRC records the time of an event, or message. There are two ways to set timestamps.

1) On you mIRC menu bar, click "Tools" followed by "Options".
2) Click on "Messages" which is located under the "IRC" tab.

2) You can turn timestamps on/off to their current settings by /timestamp on or /timestamp off.
7 How do I turn logging on and off?
Logging is the process by which conversations from both PM and main rooms are stored in a specified folder to be viewed at a later stage. There are two ways to do this.
A:
1) On your mIRC menu bar, click "Tools" followed by "Options".
2) Click on "Logging" which is located under the "IRC" tab.
3) Under "Automatically Log:" you can select what you would like logged from the drop down list.
OR
B:
1)Again, on your mIRC menu bar, click on the icon beside "File".
2) From the list select "Logging". From here you can choose to either turn logging on or off.

2) You can turn on/off the current logging settings by typing /log on or /log off.
A script is a piece of code, or "instructions" which in turn are processed by a compiler, to achieve a certain automated action. Scripts can be used for variety of tasks and can be processed automatically or by a certain trigger. Whilst there are many mIRC scripts on the internet it is always best and recommended to code your own scripts where possible as that way you can be 100% sure about where the code has come from.
9 How do I connect to another server without leaving the one I am currently connected to?
1) Firstly, type "/server -n". This will open a new server window.
2) In the new server window, type "/server irc.[servername]" e.g /server irc.freenode.org. You will then be connected to the server, as well as the previous one.
OR
1) Type /server -m irc.[servername] (e.g /server -m irc.freenode.org) and it will automatically connect you using a new status window.
